Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at kittingtonscatgrooming@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Mobile grooming is designed to make life easier for both you and your cat.

No more wrestling a reluctant kitty into a carrier, loading them into the car, or rearranging your day around trips to and from the salon.

Instead, your cat can enjoy professional grooming just steps from home. Familiar surroundings, fewer unfamiliar animals, and less time spent traveling often mean a calmer, more comfortable experience.

Unlike traditional salons, your cat won't spend hours waiting in a cage for their turn. Every appointment is scheduled with dedicated one-on-one attention, allowing us to focus entirely on your cat's needs.

We maintain a clean, professional grooming environment and use carefully selected products that are all-natural, organic, detergent-free, biodegradable, and cruelty-free.

Our goal is simple: provide exceptional grooming with kindness, professionalism, and as little stress as possible for both cats and their humans.

You can expect a five-diamond service experience. Our mission is to provide the highest standard of cat grooming and an exceptional experience for both you and your kitty.

All appointments begin with one of our signature spa services. Simply choose the services you'd like, then select the day and time that works best for you through our online booking system.

On the day of your appointment, we'll send a text when we're on our way and call when we arrive. If parking is available directly in front of your home, we'll groom there. If not, we'll safely transport your kitty to the nearest suitable parking location. For everyone's safety, all cats must be presented in a secure carrier.

Every appointment begins with a conversation. We'll ask about your cat's health, grooming history, temperament, and your goals for the appointment. This is why we require an owner to be present for a cat's first visit. The more we know, the better we can tailor the experience to your cat's individual needs.

During your kitty's first appointment, we'll evaluate their coat condition, discuss your grooming expectations, and review any potential additional fees related to coat condition, size, or requested services. We'll also address any questions or concerns you may have.

Once we've gone over the details, we'll whisk your kitty away for their spa day. When the appointment is complete, we'll call you and return your freshly groomed feline, fluffed, polished, and ready to rule the household once again.

Appointment times vary depending on coat condition, temperament, size, and services selected, but most appointments are completed in about 40 minutes.

Never. Our van is fully self-contained. All we leave behind is a clean pet and a happy smile.

Unfortunately, due to Covid protocols, we are no longer allowing clients inside the van. However, we encourage you to look at our detailed photographs on our website.

Nothing. It just means a short all-over plushy haircut. They can vary by groomer and shop because there is no industry standard. These are just different names for the same kind of haircut.

If they are under 1 year, every 2 weeks. If they are over 1, every 4 weeks.

Yes.

One of the most common things we hear is, “My cat has never had a bath and looks perfectly clean.”

The important word there is looks.

Cats are excellent at daily maintenance, but over the years oils, saliva, dander, shed skin cells, household dust, litter dust, and loose fur gradually accumulate in the coat. Because it happens so slowly, most families don’t notice the change. Then one day their cat seems greasy, dull, clumpy, or matted. It wasn’t a sudden change. It was years of buildup finally becoming visible.

Cats also clean themselves primarily by licking. But licking and washing are not the same thing.

Think of it this way. If you get Cheeto dust all over your fingers and then lick it off, are your hands actually clean? Most people would still want a sink and some soap. Cats are much the same. Self-grooming is excellent maintenance, but it doesn’t fully remove oils, dander, and debris from the coat.

Regular bathing removes the buildup that self-grooming leaves behind, helping reduce shedding, mats, odors, and excess oil while keeping the coat and skin healthier.

The best time to start is when cats are young. Regular grooming becomes part of life, making future appointments easier, safer, and less stressful.

One of the saddest things we see is an elderly cat struggling with heavily impacted ears, painful mats, or a coat that can no longer be maintained comfortably at home. A little routine maintenance throughout life is almost always kinder than waiting until a problem becomes unavoidable.

Cats are very good at brushing their hair.

They’re just not very good at taking a shower.

Unfortunately, no.

All grooming is performed in our fully equipped mobile grooming salon.

While it may seem surprising, most cats actually do better in the grooming van than they do in their own homes. A new environment often reduces the urge to hide under beds, disappear into closets, or negotiate alternative arrangements for the day's activities. With fewer distractions and no familiar escape routes, many cats settle into the grooming process more quickly than their humans expect.

Our mobile salon contains all of the professional equipment needed to provide a safe, efficient, and comfortable grooming experience, allowing us to focus entirely on your kitty from start to finish.

In general, healthy cats under the age of 10 are often good candidates for a traditional water bath. Of course, every cat is different, and temperament plays an important role in determining which grooming approach will be the most successful.

For first time cats over the age of 10 or those with known health concerns, particularly heart conditions, we may recommend alternatives to a traditional water bath. Each cat is evaluated individually, taking into account their age, health history, coat condition, and overall comfort.

If you're unsure which spa service is right for your cat, we're always happy to discuss your kitty's specific needs before booking.

We have a  minimum service fee. Prices vary by size, services provided, condition of coat, and animal temperament. For prices on all our services, see our prices in our Services  page.

Most first-time clients choose either the Fontaine Spa or the Sahara Spa.

The Fontaine Spa is our traditional water bath and delivers the deepest clean. It is the best choice for kittens, cats with oily coats, heavy shedding, litter box accidents, excessive dander, or cats that simply need a fresh start.

The Sahara Spa is our waterless grooming service. It excels at coat maintenance and is often selected between Fontaine Spas and after a Lion Cut. While it can remove loose fur, dead coat, dust, and light debris, it is not intended for heavily soiled, greasy, or urine-contaminated coats.

For senior cats with significant matting and little or no previous grooming experience, the Sahara Spa paired with a Lion Cut is often the gentlest introduction to professional grooming.

The Truce Spa is our lightest service and includes nail trimming and ear cleaning only. It is ideal for cats that do not currently need a bath, de-shedding, or fur cut but could benefit from a little diplomatic intervention.

If you're still unsure which service is right for your cat, feel free to email us before booking. We're happy to discuss your cat's age, coat condition, health concerns, and grooming goals and help you select the most appropriate service.

Anal gland expression is a practice performed by many groomers as a preventative measure to keep pets from soiling themselves after a bath and thus a groomer having to re-bathe them.

We would rather take the time and re-bathe your cat vs. causing unnecessary pain. The process of anal gland expression involves tightly squeezing delicate organs in your pet’s private area. The process and the pain are not unlike trying to squeeze a giant pimple that has risen on your most sensitive of parts.

Anal gland oils are meant to help lubricate their stool and mark their territory. Removing the oils can cause emotional trauma, constipation, and done improperly may cause infection or permanent damage. If there is a build up of anal oils this maybe be managed holistically with nutritional supplements or even a diet change. If your cat’s anal gland is impacted or infected you should seek medical attention.

We cannot guarantee that a young kitten who is not fully vaccinated will not be exposed to any animal-related diseases. Nor any cat not currently on a flea medicine regime. Simply because we cannot guarantee the cleanliness of the sidewalk outside of our truck.

Parvo can be transmitted from shoes walking on contaminated concrete. Fleas can be picked up walking on grass. And we do our absolute best to keep our truck clean and we disinfect after each service.

Please note that we do not groom cats that have not had a clear bill of health after their medications are finished for Giardia, parvo, ringworm or coccidia.
The reason why we don't allow these cats in the truck is because it takes ammonia to do a complete wipe down of the truck from top to bottom. As well as the fact that they are highly contagious to other animals, humans and could kill any of our young clients. They are also incredibly pervasive.

Additional fees may be applied after the allotted grooming time is greatly exceeded due to unforeseen conditions involving coat density, excessive under coat extraction, fur matting, or other unusual circumstances discovered during the course of grooming. If additional fees may need to be applied we will contact you before proceeding

It is a service that, sadly, we no longer offer. We recommend our friends at Mud Puppy, they have an excellent enzyme process that they use. Please tell them that we say “hi!”

No. Dawn contains Triclosan. Lab studies link Triclosan to cancer, developmental defects, and liver and inhalation toxicity.

No. We only recommend things that we like and use. We are pretty persnickety about it too. If you ever want us to info dump why we chose a thing we would be happy to oblige anytime.

In the unlikely event that you do not cancel your appointment in under 72 hours from the appointment time; we charge full price for same day cancellations,. *Example: You have a 1 pm and a 2 pm appointment, you will be charged $200 if your cancelation is under 72 hrs

On very rare occasions a cat will not yield to our tender bathing ways. We will stop service if we or your cat is in jeopardy of serious injury, emotional or physical. No bath is worth the price of harming any animal.

In this event, especially if your spa service was to include a fur trim, your cat maybe returned to you in a less-than-optimal beauty condition. They will be clean but perhaps not have symmetrically trimmed fur and/or be completely dry. We will do our utmost to make sure we have accomplished as much as possible while staying within the confines of your cat’s safety and contentedness. Upon these rare occasions full spa services will still be charged.

If your garage can accommodate vehicles 10’5″ or if you have easy street parking it’s not a problem at all.

If you have a paid parking lot near your house we are happy to use it. Parking lot fees will be added to your total bill.

If you are in the heart of the city and there is not easy parking within a 2-block radius of your location we can still service you.  We will collect your kitty at your home address and drive them to the nearest available parking spot.

No. If your cat is too sensitive to the point of possible violence during grooming we recommend speaking to your veterinarian about options to get them groomed and help them be safe.

We sure do! We are very glad that you asked. Please email us for more details.

Every 6-8 weeks is optimal but at minimum at least once every 3 months.
